While The Signal Season of
Dummy Hoy is fictional, the main character is not. William
Ellsworths' "Dummy Hoy" played professional baseball near the
end of the 19th century. His nickname "Dummy" was due to his
deafness. This play tells the story of his entry into minor
league baseball. Rough and rowdy baseball players, a
seasoned umpire, a young female reporter trying to make it
in a "mans world" and of course the indomitable Hoy help us
confront our own misconceptions and attitudes about those
who are different than ourselves. With plenty of humor and
poignant conflicts, The Signal Season of Dummy Hoy drives
home our desire to be understood and underscores the power
of pursuing our dreams. |

Coming Next
Over the River and Through the Woods July 13 –
August 4 By Joe DiPietro Directed by Jennifer
Gimzewski
Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from
New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That
doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he
sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner.
This is routine until he has to tell them that he's been
offered a dream job. The job he's been waiting for —
marketing executive — would take him away from his beloved,
but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn't
sit well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick
around. How could he betray his family's love to move to
Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank,
Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best, and that includes
bringing to dinner the lovely — and single — Caitlin O'Hare
as bait.
